4 Reasons Why You Should Create Music Videos (More Than Ever)

You have your music. You have your lyrics. But sometimes you need a little more to get the attention of an audience and potential fans. Cue, music videos! They can be used as a way to promote yourself or for artistic purposes only. Here are some reasons why it’s important for musicians to use music videos:

1) IT GIVES VIEWERS INSIGHT INTO WHO YOU ARE

What makes you tick, where does inspiration come from? Music videos can further the relationship between you and your audience by exposing your creative process. It’ll deepen your identity, style and personality through the story and visuals brought by this material.

2) THEY CREATE A VISUAL EXPERIENCE FOR YOUR MUSIC

When a person listens to music, they are not only listening to music. They are entering a parallel universe covered with different emotions and possibilities. Add visuals to this feeling and all of a sudden they’ll have an out-of-body experience.

3) THEY TELL A STORY, AND HAVE THE POWER TO CONNECT WITH YOUR AUDIENCE

The story behind music videos can make your song more relatable than it already is because it has the power to evoke emotions in the audience that wouldn’t be evoked otherwise. It can create a new meaning to your lyrics, a new power to your chords and new emotion to your melodies. I’ve already given this example before but I’ll do it again, just because it illustrates perfectly this last point.

4. THEY GIVE YOU AN EXTRA PROMOTION OPPORTUNITY

And if everything I said is not enough to prove the power of music videos, than how about the fact that it can literally SKYROCKET your music promotion. According to studies, people are more likely to consume your music along with visuals than without it, and for that reason, social medias push out these types of content much further than other types. Also music labels are constantly looking for artists with existing content and you can bet music videos are part of their expectation.

Conclusion:

Whether you’re signed or an independent artist, eventually you’ll come across a roadblock if you don’t have a strong visual brand to promote your music. Every day digital platforms and social medias are focusing more and more on video formats and having a well polished music video can be enough to get attention from the industry, potential sponsors and fans.
