Boy, Do We Have The Solution For You!
In this article, we’ll go over how you too can liven up a dead hallway/living room with a bunch of (useful) sound equipment to better enhance your music career.
I’m a self-starting artist who wants to build their own home studio and save on production costs. What did I do?
In this video by Andrew Masters, we learn how easy it is to get your own home set up, like one of the pros.
Here are some helpful things to think about to get you started!
1) MAKE ADJUSTMENTS TO YOUR SPACE AS NEEDED
Whether that’s drilling a couple of holes in your wall with a drill bit-16 to install some storage choices, or reorganizing your space to accommodate the studio of your building.
Make the adjustments you’ll need to smooth over the studio you’re going to build.
2) SOUNDPROOFING, SOUNDPROOFING, SOUNDPROOFING.
Soundproof your walls, soundproof your windows too. There is a huge selection of different types of soundproofing devices fit for many of your different means. We are just trying to make sure that you don’t get evicted.
3) THE IMPORTANCE OF SHELVES AND CLEVER STORAGE
Don’t put all your non-essential equipment on the ground. This is why IKEA sells really cheap shelves.
Easy-to-install and no hassle when you're moving from one station (in your rollie chair) to another.
4) YOUR LISTENING AREA
A good sound technician makes sure his speakers are dual-placed next to his monitor (like in this picture).
A good time is to keep them pointed towards you and your chair so that the music transports cleanly to your ears (like headphones); and not towards the wall or space behind you.
5) SPATIAL AWARENESS
Have everything placed in your studio in a way that’ll make creating simple, easy, and accessible. That means no trash bags of dirty laundry stacked onto your drum kit or dab rig right next to your keyboard. Basically, stay organized and clean.
6) SOME MONITOR ACTION AND SEATING
Dedicate time towards making your music, in the most comfortable and de-cluttered way possible. Two screens are better than one.
If you can fit it in your budget, a couple of extra monitors and a chair that’ll support the hours you spend creating will go a long way.
7) WIRE ORGANIZATION
Check out this Reddit link for people who are all about cable management. Safe to say you wouldn’t want to trip and cause a Final Destination 5 moment. As the old saying goes, a clean room is a clean mind (is a clean track/EP).
8) LIGHTING
For those who like to be visually stimulated, or more-so, like to live life like they are the main character in an HBO series *cough, cough* Euphoria, get some lights.
A popular and highly-visually-rated (this coming from a person who spent 4 years mastering the art of lighting equipment at wow-ee, pretty colors academy) is to wrap the lighting LED strips or tubing around the back of your monitors, and/or under your desks.
It creates a futuristic kind of look that’ll propel your inspiration forwardly.
As if you were already performing at the concert/venue of your dreams.
LASTELY,
It goes without saying that the choice of your sound equipment and the full organization of your studio is all up to your design.
Be your own presence in your music lab as we provide you with pointers to fulfill that goal.
